Troy Aronhalt has been employed by the Ashland Police Department since January 1998. He graduated from Benedictine High School in 1993. After high school, he attended Virginia Wesleyan University for one year and then transferred to Virginia Commonwealth University where he received his undergraduate degree. Before joining the Ashland Police Department, Lt. Aronhalt worked for Alcohol and Beverage Control as a security officer. In 2002 he was promoted to the rank of corporal and placed in charge of the traffic safety unit. During this period he became a general instructor, field-training officer and managed grants through the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles. In 2006 he was promoted to the rank of sergeant. He was responsible for the midnight shift patrol unit. In 2007 he was transferred to dayshift where he was placed in charge of the dayshift patrol units and training for the department. In 2008 he graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy and was promoted to the rank of lieutenant. While in this role he has been tasked with being responsible for the Support Services Division, Training, Community Policing Unit, and the evidence room. Captain Aronhalt was promoted to his current rank in July 2014.
