Alternative Options for Disposal of Items
Certain waste items are not accepted by residential trash collection; however, options for disposal are available. These items are not accepted by residential trash collection, but can be taken to the Elmont Solid Waste Service Convenience Center, located at 11045 Lewistown Road (Route 783) in Elmont. The center is open daily from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm:
- Appliances containing Freon
- Motor oil, anti-freeze, and hazardous wastes
- Tires (up to 4 per day)
These items are not accepted by residential trash collection, but can be taken to the U.S. Route 301 Solid Waste Service Transfer Station, located at 7301 Courtland Farm Road (Route 820) in Hanover. This is the Hanover County landfill and is open from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm daily (closed Sunday).
