What would you like voters to know about you?

I am a retired educator of Hanover County Public Schools having served families of Ashland for 30 years. I made Ashland my home as it was important to me to live where I taught, and it is a decision I do not regret. It is a wonderful place to live. I have a soft spot for our school-aged students, and I continue to work with the school system through the PREP Program. 

I was born in southern Michigan, raised on our family farm, and return as often as possible to see my twin brother and other family members. I am an animal lover and have adopted many cats and dogs over the years. My husband and I presently have three former racing greyhounds and a kitty. The Hanover Humane Society and the Ashland YMCA are two non-profit organizations I support. I currently serve on Ashland’s Town Council and am the liaison to the Ashland Theatre and Ashland Park and Recreation Boards.

What characteristics or principles are most important for a member of Ashland's Town Council to possess?

Three characteristics I think are most important for a member of the Ashland Town Council are: congenial, good listener, and fair.

What is the biggest issue facing the Town of Ashland, and how might you suggest the community/Town address it?

The biggest issue facing Ashland today is “keeping Ashland, Ashland” while managing the growth necessary to support the services our community needs. It’s important that the Town Council carefully evaluate every land use request in terms of how it will affect the character of our Town and our quality of life.

What three words would you use to describe Ashland?

Vibrant. Evolving. Caring.

Why do you want to serve in public office?

Living in Ashland, I know the importance of a strong Town Government and I have enjoyed being a part of it. My first term has given me the experience and confidence needed to make tough decisions affecting the lives of every person living in our Town. I would like to continue to serve my community as I still have much to contribute.
