The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has released the Preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) for the Town of Ashland. These maps show the projected flood risk of properties, as well as areas that are subject to flooding.
FEMA is revising the maps to incorporate newer topographic information and more current data affecting flood risk. The FIRMs for most of the Town were last updated in 2008. Of particular note:
- some properties will be mapped into the Special Flood Hazard Area (100-year floodplain), also known as the high-risk flood zone;
- some properties are already in the 100-year floodplain and will remain there; and,
- some properties may be mapped out of the 100-year floodplain.
With this map change, the flood risk associated with your property may increase, decrease, or stay the same. The Town of Ashland will notify all impacted property owners by mail.
You can look up your address here, view the updated maps on FEMA's website (map numbers for the Town of Ashland listed below) or review hard copies of the Preliminary FIRMs at Town Hall (121 Thompson Street), Monday-Thursday, 7:30 am to 6:00 pm.
